Laser skin resurfacing
Undeniable long-lasting results
Laser skin resurfacing is a more intense treatment which provides serious long term results for deeper lines and more significantly sun-damaged skin. It provides a drastic improvement in skin tone and texture, using a Sciton laser that removes varying thicknesses of skin depending on the type of the skin problems being treated.
In essence, this laser technology produces a controlled burn which heals with significant skin tightening. The laser allows us to adjust the depth and the intensity so we can tailor the treatment to meet each patient’s specific needs and goals. We routinely combine laser resurfacing with surgical procedures the give patients the best possible overall results.
For example, when doing a lower lid blepharoplasty we use the laser to tighten the skin and save the patient from a visible scar under the lash line. During a facelift the deeper lines around the mouth are treated with laser during the operation.
The benefits of full field resurfacing are undeniable and long lasting. This is a serious treatment which requires that a patient invest in their recovery. The areas treated will become swollen and crusted in the first 2 days.
The crust will typically fall off 5-7 days later revealing pink skin that can be camouflaged with makeup. You should plan a solid 7-10 days where you are not out in public. If you combine Profractional laser treatment with a skin surgery, an anesthetic is necessary. If done on its own, we use an intense topical anesthetic.
Expect a 1 ½ hour treatment. It can be painful afterwards with sensations of heat and itching. Profractional resurfacing uses the same technology as full field resurfacing however instead of taking off a full layer of skin we accurately pinpoint and remove tiny areas leaving the surrounding skin intact.
When done this way, the healing time is much shorter and the recovery is less intense. The patient can expect to be completely healed 4 days after treatment. It is not as painful and can be treated with a topical anesthetic. We typically call it a “Weekend peel”.
