It’s ok to talk about it!
Like legs or breasts, our bodies are all built differently. And when it comes to our intimate anatomy this is also true. Some women have inner labia that are tucked in, while others are more prominent and visible outside the outer labia. This can cause shyness in intimate situations or discomfort during physical activities like horseback riding or biking. This issue becomes apparent during puberty and can be more evident after pregnancy. The aim of a labiaplasty is to shorten the length of the labia minora in order for them to remain hidden inside the labia majora.
This body surgery can either be done by removing a pie shaped wedge of tissue, or by removing a strip of tissue along the edge of the lip. If there is excess tissue around the clitoris, a clitoral hood reduction can be included. Changes in the outer labia majora can also develop over time. Like the breasts, the labia can become deflated after pregnancy. Techniques such as fat grafting to increase volume and skin excisions to reduce length are available.
